How to Pack the Homebase Duffle Case
If you pack everything on this list, you’ll have extra room in the Homebase Duffle Case for souvenirs, extra outfits, or accessories.
Packing the Duffle Case as a Carry On
Clothes
The Homebase Duffle Case will fit:
- 6 short sleeve tops
- 4 long sleeve tops
- 4 bottoms: pants, skirts, etc
- 1 pair of gym shorts or lounge pants
- 7-10 pairs of underwear
- 7-10 pairs of socks
- 1 lightweight jacket
- 1 winter jacket
- 2 sweaters
- 1 pair of shoes
Adapt the clothes you pack based on weather and your personal style. We recommend rolling, not folding, your clothes to minimize wrinkles.
Weather-specific packing tips:
Toiletries
Pare your toiletries down to the essentials to fit everything in your one quart bag. For carry ons, your liquids and gels must be in 3.4 ounce (or less) bottles. Those bottles must fit into a one quart plastic bag. Each passenger may only carry one such bag.
Pack your liquids bag in one of the mesh pockets for easy access when you’re going through security.
Accessories
- 1 scarf
- 1 pair of gloves
- 1 belt
- Jewelry
Use our packing list as a framework and add to it as needed.
Your perfect carry on packing list will be different from anyone else’s. The only way to truly nail a carry-on-only travel style is to test it out and take notes on what worked, and what didn’t.
Was ditching the extra sweater a bad idea? Do you think you could probably bring one less pair of shoes? You’ll never know until you’ve tested it out, taken notes, and then put those notes to the test the next time you travel. That’s the fun part.
Packing the Duffle Case with Souvenirs
Our co-founder, Jeremy, recently traveled to Japan, Singapore, and Thailand with the duffle case in tow. He packed for the trip in an Outbreaker but carried the duffle case with the intention of bringing home souvenirs from Asia.
When Jeremy left LAX, his duffle case was completely empty. Two weeks into his trip, it was full of several sake bottles, boxes of cookies from Bangkok, candy from Tokyo, overflow clothing, and an extra pair of shoes. Since the sake is a liquid and can’t be carried on a plane, he checked the bag full of souvenirs on his return trip.
The internal compartment is roomy and open, so it’s a great choice of bag for souvenirs. Especially if your travel treasures are bulky or oddly shaped.
What Does 45L Even Mean?
It can be tough to visualize how much you can pack in a 45L bag. We tested it out with some wackier items, and were able to fit:
- 17 hardcover, leather-bound copies of Tolstoy’s Sisyphean epic War & Peace
- 72 classic moleskin journals (including 6 oversized editions)
- 52 Lonely Planet guides, from Iceland to Oman
- 3 cases of beer
